Box Office Battle: ‘Bob Marley’ wins Presidents’ Day weekend with big debut

“Box Office Battle” is The Fly’s weekly roundup of what movies topped the weekend’s box office.

Paramount’s (PARA) “Bob Marley: One Love” won this year’s Presidents’ Day at the North American box office with a $34.1M debut for the four-day period and a big $52M opening over the six-day Valentine’s Day-Presidents’ Day corridor. Overseas, the movie earned an estimated $29M for a global total just north of $80M.

BOX OFFICE RUNNER-UPS: Sony’s (SONY) “Madame Web” opened at number two with $18M for the four-day weekend and $25.8M for the six days. Behind it was “Argylle,” an Apple (AAPL) Original Films title that was distributed by Universal (CMCSA), with another $5.8M for the long weekend. Universal’s “Migration” placed number four with $5.1M for the four days from 2,455 locations. Rounding out the top five, Warner Bros.’ (WBD) “Wonka” grossed an estimated $4.3M over the Presidents’ Day.
